“And as you go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Matthew 10:7 Amplified
As Jesus is sending out His disciples He tells them to preach to everyone saying that the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Does He mean that the end is near? That’s what comes to my mind when I hear that. I believe He meant salvation is close by since He was the Way, the Truth and the Life. Jesus knew He would be going home soon and had to prepare His disciples for life without Him, at least in the flesh. He also instructed them to go strictly to the Jews. They had likely seen Him curing and helping Gentiles, but the Jews were God’s chosen people and salvation must be first offered to them. Once the Jewish leaders rejected Jesus then the Good News was offered to all who would accept it.
Some believe that in our time we’re seeing the fulfilment of Bible prophecy, and that the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Many look to the eastern sky anticipating Jesus appearance in the clouds to take His children home. When He returns is not what matters most, as believers we need to be telling those around us that Jesus is the only redemption for a lost and sinless world.
