“And Jesus called to Him the throng with His disciples and said to them, If anyone intends to come after Me, let him deny himself, forget, ignore, disown, and lose sight of himself, of his own interests, and take up his cross and, joining Me as a disciple and siding with My party, follow with Me, continually, cleaving steadfastly to Me.” Mark 8:34 Amplified
We have been studying how to be more like Jesus, that’s our goal as believers, we are to be Christlike, that’s what the word Christian means. This verse gives us the best definition of how to do that – forget yourself. I’m as guilty as the next person in NOT doing that, our human/carnal nature fights us on it and the world around us agrees with that humanistic view. Who can forget “Your number one”. Without the Lord though, you will never be able to completely take care of yourself; spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally or financially.
When we think of denying ourself or putting ourself on a cross, it sounds painful and impossible. What we’re really doing though, is giving our all to the Lord and letting Him lead and guide us, letting him take care of us and our needs. By putting others first we make the greatest sacrifice and it brings God the glory.
Join me in a challenge this weekend, in any situation you encounter this weekend starting now, do not put yourself first, but the other person and do it for the Lord. I truly believe when we do that, the Lord will see that our needs are met, maybe not instantaneously, but they will be met.
