“But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter saying, Get behind Me Satan! For you do not have a mind intent on promoting what God wills, but what pleases men, you are not on God’s side, but that of men.” Mark 8:33 Amplified
Jesus had just explained to the group of disciples that He would be rejected, crucified and rise again. Subsequently Peter took Him aside and told Him not to say things like that. Jesus knew His destiny better than Peter, so the Lord told them all what’s in our key verse for today.
Peter reacted in a very human way to what Jesus was saying, he didn’t want to lose someone close to him. Then Jesus rebuked him and let him know that he was thinking as he always had and now needed to think in a way that pleased God.
As believers have we changed our way of thinking? Have we let the Lord have full sway in our way of thinking? When we speak or make decisions do we first think and pray about what God’s will is in this situation?
To be like Jesus we need to be on God’s side, seek His will and do what’s pleasing to Him.
