“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Matthew 6:21 Amplified
We’ve talked about the heart and that all of our actions come from there. Our heart is better defined as our mind, conscience, and emotions. Here Jesus is saying that what you think about, what motivates you, that is your most important item, your treasure.
So do you think about what you think about? Interesting question. Most of us don’t think about what it is that we think about, we just do it. A situation will come up and our mind starts ruminating on how to handle it, we don’t necessarily stop and examine closely what the reaction will be and its after effects. Most of the time, though, we have ongoing issues we are dealing with – our job, relationships, money, responsibilities – those are the “treasures” He is talking about. In what context do we handle all of these areas? Do we bring them before the Lord and ask Him for guidance and direction, or just handle them the best way WE can?
Our spiritual life, our eternal life, is the greatest treasure we have, if we are a believer. That’s where everything else should spring from. Take all your cares – job, relationships, money, responsibilities – to the Lord and ask Him to filter through them. Once we do that we will truly have a treasure that will surpass anything on this earth.
