“He must increase, but I must decrease. He must grow more prominent; I must grow less so.” John 3:30 Amplified
In our verse today John the Baptist is speaking to his followers. They have come to him to tell him that the one he baptized, Jesus, is now baptizing, he informs them that’s the way it should be.
If we want to be like Jesus humility is the key. John exhibited it in our verse today and we must learn to do the same thing in our life daily. Now I know it’s hard to be humble, we feel like that would be letting everyone walk all over us. There’s a difference though in humbling yourself and letting others put you down. True Christian humility is self-imposed, not forced on us, we make the choice. Jesus was not hung on the cross by the Romans and the Jews, He chose to allow Himself to die for us, never forget that. That day on Calvary, He could have destroyed everyone in sight, or at least those who hated Him and wanted Him destroyed. He was doing what was pleasing to God, and that is what we must do as well. Be warned though, the flesh does not like to be humble, pride is a powerful thing, but the Lord will give you strength, He says so in His Word.
“May He grant you out of the rich treasury of His glory to be strengthened and reinforced with mighty power in the inner man by the Holy Spirit Himself indwelling your innermost being and personality.” Ephesians 3:16
