“The upright man out of the good treasure stored in his heart produces what is upright, honorable and intrinsically good, and the evil man out of the evil storehouse brings forth that which is depraved, wicked and intrinsically evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” Luke 6:45 Amplified
Jesus is speaking here about the heart of the matter, why we do all the things we do in life. As we study what Jesus would do, He tells us here in this verse that it comes from our heart. Even when people try to say or do things that they think others will approve of ultimately their hearts will show who they really are. Everything starts with self, looking inward, seeing the log in our own eye, loving our self before we are able to love others.
Most of us don’t want to think that those in our community are evil, though evil is done in this world and someone has to be guilty of it. What causes evil to rise up and do wickedness? We’re all born with pure hearts, but at some point evil has been allowed to creep in and take over. At some point the choice was made to follow after evil or good.
Even if evil has crept in there is always the ability to turn from it with God’s help. He always stands ready to help when called on.
