A Christian Journey

Be Subject To God

“And he said to Him, These things, all taken together, I will give You, if You will prostrate Yourself before me and do homage and worship me.”   Matthew 4:9  Amplified

Today’s verse is the third temptation of Christ by the devil. The enemy always tries to tempt us with things to make us feel better about our self. Problem is it ends up making us feel worse because it’s never enough. Also when dealing with the enemy there are strings attached that he doesn’t tell us about. When we give in to worldly things we also set ourselves up as god.

Jesus response is final, “Begone, Satan! For it has been written, You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him alone shall you serve.” He quotes scripture, the first and greatest commandment, to the enemy and the next verse tells us that the devil departed from Him.

We must constantly be doing spiritual self checks to see where our heart is, what are we thinking of. Scripture tells us to bring everything before God to make sure it’s what’s best for us. All of us like a little stuff, but not all stuff is good for us. Let God decide because He knows what’s best and only has your best in mind.

“So be subject to God, resist the devil, stand firm against him, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7
