“And he said, Look! I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing at God’s right hand!” Acts 7:56 Amplified
We last looked at Stephen, the first Christian martyr, and what a powerful man for the Lord that He was. Now we see him standing before the Sanhedrin, the Jewish leaders, as an accused blasphemer. The high priest asked Stephen, “Are these charges true?” His response is a dissertation on the history of the Jewish people from Abraham to that moment in time. He finishes his speech with this statement, “You who received the Law as it was ordained and set in order and delivered by angels, and yet you did not obey it!” Stephen was speaking of all the prophecy regarding the Messiah that the Jewish people had received. This infuriated the Jewish leaders, I suppose part of their anger was for this man to talk to them about Jewish history as if they were unlearned men, in fact that’s probably the main reason they became so infuriated with him. Then of course Stephen accused them of disobedience to the Law, which the Jewish leaders were sticklers for following every jot and tittle of the Law.
So what do we learn from this that will help us in our every day life? This is what I’m all about in my blog.
It speaks to me that I should take a stand for truth. That I should seek God’s direction in ALL areas of my life and be accountable to Him first and foremost. That I should carefully listen to those who say they are representatives of the Lord and compare what they say to the Word of God.
Finally, we see the Lord reward Stephen for his steadfastness in our verse today, he saw Jesus in heaven, he would soon join Him.
