“If My people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves, pray, seek, crave, and require of necessity My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 Amplified
Today on this National Day of Prayer we come to God in one voice seeking His forgiveness, grace and blessing for our country. The verse today comes from the old testament, King Solomon had just completed the Temple and at the end of the grand ceremony is this statement from God. He further tells them in verses 19 and 20 of that same chapter, “But if you people turn away and forsake My statutes and My commandments which I have set before you and go and serve other gods and worship them. THEN will I pluck (Israel) up by the roots out of My land which I have given them.”
Now some will say that these verses only apply to the nation of Israel, but I say that this applies to any person or country founded on God’s word. If you claim the name Christian, which means Christ like, than you are called by His name and should do what He says in this verse.
First, humble yourself. Our pride keeps us from doing this, but God is ruler of the universe, everything is in His hands. When you stand before Him after this physical life is over you will have either bowed down to Him in life or you WILL bow down to Him in death. Let me not mince words, if you have not bowed to Him in life then you will have condemned yourself to eternal death.
Second, pray. Turn to God for guidance and direction in your life. He can give you such wonderful peace and joy, beyond comprehension.
Third, seek Him. I like the amplified version because it says require of necessity God’s face, His presence.
Fourth, turn. If you have been in disobedience to God and living a life that is not pleasing to Him, STOP! To put it in current terms, you’re heading down a dead-end street, turn around and go the right way. It will be to your benefit to repent and turn to God, as the verse says next.
Then will He hear from heaven, forgive your sin, and heal your land.
We have to stop blaming all those around us for the condition of this country and start by looking within.
