“Now my soul is troubled and distressed, and what shall I say? Father, save Me from this hour of trial and agony? But it was for this very purpose that I have come to this hour, that I might undergo it.” John 12:27 Amplified
In this verse Jesus is already seeing what lies down the road ahead, in His humanity He says His soul is troubled and distressed. He then asks His disciples, should He ask His Father to keep this from happening? Then answers the question Himself by acknowledging that He was sent for this hour and purpose.
While we know that Jesus came to die for us, this also helps us with trials and tests that come into our life. As believers we are trusting God with our lives so anything difficult that we may go through is for His purpose and glory. Our humanness always wants to avoid pain and discomfort, it’s why we avoid touching something hot. Yet in painful and uncomfortable issues that surface in our daily walk we must see as being needed to strengthen us and bring Him glory.
As we approach this Resurrection Sunday, let us see His humanity as ours and be encouraged by what He did for us.
