“God said, Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah; and offer him there as a burnt offering upon one of the mountains of which I will tell you.” Genesis 22:2 Amplified
We know from our scripture today that Abraham was told by God to go and sacrifice his son. We don’t know if Abraham told our woman of the Bible, Sarah. Was Abraham able to hide his distress over having to kill his son Isaac, whom he had waited so long for? He was 100 years old and likely had been married to Sarah for the majority of that time. Husbands and wives can generally sense when the other person is anxious or upset about something, whether they say anything or not. I believe she knew something was going on even though the Bible doesn’t tell us that he told her what the trip was for.
Have you ever known part of a problem, but not the whole thing? Sometimes I think that can make matters worse, because your mind can go a hundred different directions trying to figure out the solution. We may have a problem or a situation come up that doesn’t even involve us, but one of our loved ones. Our tendency is to try an work out all the solutions, to come to an end that would be best. This situation with Abraham, Isaac and Sarah was out of her control, she was left back at the camp to wonder what was going on. She could only believe that as God had given her Isaac in her old age, that He would preserve him as well. She put Isaac back in God’s hands.
Let’s learn from Sarah and put all our problems in God’s hands. He’s the Creator of the universe, surely He can handle our problems. When you give them to Him, He can do great things.
