“And great, important and weighty, we confess, is the hidden truth, the mystic secret, of godliness, God was made visible in human flesh, justified and vindicated in the Holy Spirit, was seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, and taken up in glory.” 1 Timothy 3:16 Amplified
At this point we’re about halfway through the new testament as we look at the 3:16 verses of the Bible. Paul is giving instruction to Timothy on leading the church and discussing the different offices of it.
In today’s verse he talks about the hidden truth, the mystic secret of godliness. As with a lot of secrets, it’s hidden in plain sight. The story of Jesus – his life, death, and resurrection – has been preached all over the world. Why do some accept salvation and some don’t? To me that’s the mystery. Eternal life through Christ is like a life jacket for a drowning person, a pill that cures cancer, a bulletproof vest for a policeman. Christ the Messiah offers life, eternal, it’s up to each person whether to accept it or reject it. Then the mystery to godliness is in giving your life back to Him to do with as He chooses. The mystery there is that we don’t want to give up the control. Most people like it when God can help them, but they don’t want to just totally give their life to God to do with as He pleases. He might send them to Antarctica! If you trust God for eternity, can’t you trust Him for right now? If you just say, I want to please God, then you will want to go to Antarctica or however He wants to use you.
Ponder on the mystery of eternal life and godliness, see where you are.
