“Thus says the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways, your previous and present conduct, and how you have fared.” Haggai 1:7 Amplified
The book of Haggai, our next book of the Bible doesn’t have a third chapter, but in reading it I felt impressed to express what it says.
The Jewish people had returned from exile to Jerusalem, in fact 18 years had passed. They were having trouble rebuilding the temple, which was the primary reason for their return, so they began building their own homes. This was not pleasing to God.
Do we ever make excuses to God? What has God called you to do that you make excuses for? According to John 3:16, He’s called us all to salvation, have you accepted His free gift? If you are saved do you attend church regularly? We all have to miss occasionally for sickness or other reasons, but is it a habit? Don’t get me wrong going to church is not for God, it’s for us, but we’re commanded to support the church with our giving. God has also called us to have a right attitude with others and to trust Him, are you doing that?
In today’s verse God is basically asking the people, through Haggai, How have you been doing in your life since you’re ignoring what I’ve called you to do? Whatever you get is blown away, you need rain and get a drought, you struggle and strive, but gain nothing. You’re more concerned about your home and goods for yourself then My house. As believers in Jesus He’s called us to go into all the world and tell others about Him. As verse 2:4 states, “be strong, alert and courageous, all you people of the land, says the Lord, and work! For I am with you, says the Lord of hosts.”
Ask the Lord what He’s called you to do, then be strong, alert and courageous to do it.
