“And the harvest of righteousness, of conformity to God’s will in thought and deed, is the fruit of the seed sown in peace by those who work for and make peace (in themselves and in others, that peace which means concord, agreement, and harmony between individuals, with undisturbedness, in a peaceful mind free from fears and agitating passions and moral conflicts). James 3:18 Amplified
This verse on peace has a lot packed into it. We saw in another verse that righteousness brings peace, with God and others. Doing the right thing is always right. In todays culture, though, we’ve gotten to the point where a lot of people are doing what’s right in their own sight, not realizing that they’re blind, spiritually speaking.
Let’s try and break some of this verse down. First, we see that righteousness is the harvest that comes from doing the will of God, because we are at peace with Him. Second, the verse says we work for and make peace, so peace doesn’t just fall on us like snow when we want it, we have to be active about it. Third, it says peace in ourselves and with others. Sometimes we can try and be peaceful with others and they don’t want to cooperate, but what about the peace in ourselves. Are you content where you are? Are you content with who you are? If not, seek God’s guidance and direction for those. Fourth, the verse defines what peace is – free from fears, agitating passions, and moral conflicts. If you are experiencing any of these than you can’t be at peace.
Now, take a step back and do an inventory. Are you doing God’s will, obeying His commands? Are you working to make peace with yourself and others? Are you fearful, agitated, or in conflict?
If you truthfully answer these questions and discuss them with God, you will find peace.
