“For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance shall arise for the Jews from elsewhere, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows but that you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this and for this very occasion?” Esther 4:14 Amplified
The verse today is from the book of Esther, the book isn’t very long and it tells an interesting story. In short, Esther is brought to the king to become his new queen. The Jews are living in the land along with all the other people and the king isn’t aware that Esther is Jewish. Her uncle, Mordecai, who’d raised her, was in the palace and had thwarted an assasination attempt on the king. Now one of the kings leaders, Haman, disliked Mordecai so he decided he was going to get the king to order all the jews destroyed. Once Mordecai got wind of Haman’s plan he went to Esther for her help. That brings us to the verse today. Esther explained to Mordecai that if the king didn’t call her into his court she couldn’t speak to him or she’d be killed. Mordecai basically told her, if she didn’t speak to the king to try and save her people she was going to be killed anyway. He told her that her becoming queen was more than likely for this exact situation and it was up to her to save her people. She realized her role, called a fast for three days, and agreed to go to the king.
One of the interesting facts about the book of Esther is that God is never mentioned, it’s the only book in the bible with that distinction.
So what’s our role as christians today in our world. Were we born for such a time as this? What’s God calling you to do today to protect His chosen people – believers? We can sit afraid, like Esther did, but I believe God’s looking for people who will take a stand for Him in our culture today. I am seeking Him to find out specifically what He wants me to do. This time of lent when we’re fasting and seeking Him, let’s also ask Him what He wants us to do.
Oh by the way, Esther was called into the kings court and was able to save her people. We can do the same thing.
