“The Lord recompense you for what you have done, and a full reward be given you by the Lord, the God of Israel, under Whose wings you have come to take refuge.” Ruth 2:12
Continuing in the story of Ruth, she has gone out into the fields to work, to gather enough grain for herself and her mother-in-law. Boaz was the owner of the field and was related to Ruth’s husband. Though she did not approach him for help, but chose to work for it herself, once he found out she was working in the field he wanted to help her. The verse for today is what he told her and he did more for her in this story.
Ruth decided to stay with her mother-in-law, Naomi, to help her since she had lost her husband and two sons, one of which was Ruth’s husband. Ruth could have gone back home to her family, but she chose to stay with Naomi. When we put others needs ahead of our own, I don’t think we need to look for a reward for that from the people we are helping or anyone else – God sees and will reward us. In this situation God used Boaz.
Let us always do for others to please our Lord. When you do something for others in secret the Lord rewards openly. When you do something for others in public you have received your reward already.
