“With eyes of faith Isaac, looking far into the future, invoked blessings upon Jacob and Esau.” Hebrews 11:20
Isaac had faith to believe what his father Abraham had told him, that they would become a great nation.
Jacob and Esau were twin brothers, the sons of Isaac. Esau was the older of the two being born first. As with most parents, Isaac had a favoite child who was Esau, a big strapping lad who hunted. Jacob was Rebekah’s favorite, he was smaller and quiet. Being the older Esau would naturally receive his fathers blessing and carry on the family name, but Jacob would end up being the one to do to receive it. Some might say that Jacob was deceitful in gaining the blessing, but Esau’s appetite was really to blame, or him listening to his appetite was really to blame (like most of us). In Genesis 25:33 we see that Esau sold his birthright to Jacob for a pot of lentil soup. Later when Isaac is nearing the end of his life Jacob comes to gain the blessing, even though he disquises himself as Esau, I believe Isaac knew it was Jacob. Though Esau was initially angry over it they later reconciled and both became great nations.
