“Urged on by faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed and went forth to a place which he was destined to receive as an inheritance; and he went, although he did not know or trouble his mind about where he was to go.” Hebrews 11:8 (Amplified)
My hope in doing this blog is to stir up interest in God’s Word and to make it a part of our lives. It helps me in my study of the scriptures and what it means to me, I hope it does the same for you.
There are so many things about this verse that jump out. First it says Abraham was urged on by faith, obeyed and went. Often we are urged on by our own eagerness or that of others to see something accomplished, but he was urged on by faith. How is one urged on by faith? The weatherman tells us it is going to rain and we are urged on by faith in what he says to take an umbrella with us. We might step outside and see sunshine and blue skies, but the weatherman told us rain was coming. Remember, faith is believing in what you can’t see. Back in Genesis it says the Lord told Abram to leave everything he knew to go to a place where he would be blessed. Abram grabbed his umbrella and headed out.
The weatherman is correct in what he says about 50% of the time, yet we continue to believe him. God is correct 100% of the time, so let’s be urged on by faith to believe Him.
