The Gift

“Jesus answered her – If you had only known and recognized God’s gift and Who this is that is saying to you, give Me a drink, you would have asked Him instead and He would have given you living water.”  John 4:10

We are continuing to look at the story of the woman at the well and her encounter with Jesus.  Yesterday she asked Him why He was talking to her, since she was a woman and a Samaritan.

Today’s verse answers that question by Jesus telling her that He was God’s gift.  I don’t know if it was said much during that time, but women have heard it said before that a man might think he is God’s give to women.  Well, Jesus was truly God’s gift, and not just to women, He was sent to be The Gift for all mankind, if they will only accept Him.

Yesterday we noted that this woman went to the well at noon and we will see later the reason why, but it is very likely she had heard from other men that they were a gift – the best man around – but they had let her down.
