“….how we were so utterly and unbearably weighed down and crushed that we despaired even of life itself. Indeed we felt within ourselves that we had received the very sentence of death, but that was to keep us from trusting in and depending on ourselves instead of on God Who raises the dead.” 2 Corinthians 1:8b-9 (Amplified)
Have you ever felt so utterly and unbearably weighed down, crushed and in despair? I don’t think I have ever been to the point of despairing of life itself, but I’ve felt pretty close a few times. This verse is written by Paul to the early church as they suffered persecution, trials and tribulations along with him.
We aren’t suffering persecutions, at least not yet, but we all deal with trials and tribulations in our lives. Sometimes it is health issues, financial issues, relationship issues, emotional issues, the list can go on.
This scripture tells us why we go through those – to keep us from trusting in and depending on ourselves instead of on God. He raises from the dead, He is the creator of the universe, He can handle our issues if we will let Him.
