“Then you will call and the Lord will answer, you will cry and He will say, Here I am, if you take away from your midst yokes of oppression wherever you find them, the finger pointed in scorn toward the oppressed or the godly, and every form of false, harsh, unjust and wicked speaking.” Isaiah 58:9
The word that begins this verse, then, means it is conditional. God will answer your prayers and help you, but there is something you must also do.
The Lord says to take away from where you are the yokes of oppression when you see them. Do you know of anyone in bondage around you? Is there anything you can do to help them?
Then the Lord says to take away the finger pointed in scorn toward the oppressed or the godly. Do you look at what is happening to others who are in bondage and gossip about them? Do you look down on those who are doing what they think is pleasing to God?
Finally the Lord says to take away every form of false, harsh, unjust and wicked speaking. Listen to yourself and examine closely what you are saying. Is your conversation filled with untruths, harsh words, and foul language?
God wants to answer your prayers, but you must first examine yourself and live a life pleasing to Him.
