“Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7
As humans we see what is in front of us and when we look at another person we see their appearance. We usually make instant judgments by what they wear, their hair, their facial features. What if we were blind?
Today’s scripture says God looks at the heart. That tells me He doesn’t even see our outward appearance, or better yet He looks past it. Just as we would look past a forest to see the mountain.
Isn’t that what we really all want? Not to be judged by our outward appearance, but for who we really are, our heart, our character.
David was a man after God’s own heart. This scripture comes from the day that God chose David to be king because of his heart not his outward appearance.
What does your heart look like?
